For the past four months, 6 dedicated York School students, along with their fearless leaders have been preparing for the 2007 India trip to the FFC orphanage. We have been holding car washes, bake sales, grub days, and a Bollywood night with a silent auction to raise funds for the children at the orphanage. And now, with three days before our departure we are making last minute packing decision, gathering and packing donated goods and saying our goodbyes to our families and friends.

Please stay tuned for our adventures!!

Travel is like a mood altering drug but it’s legal, and it’s good for you. It’s a way to leave your cares and concerns behind for a little while and be transported into something else, somewhere else. It’s a way of renewing your interest in the world around you and your place in it. It’s a way of gaining perspective. Travel is a way for those of us from the rich part of the world to transfer some of our wealth to poorer parts of the world. Travel is the ultimate expression of experiential learning – where we learn by doing.
Over the past several months six students and two teachers at the York School have been steadily preparing for what we know will be a memorable travel adventure. In two days we’re off to the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. There, we’ll experience the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of India while volunteering to help some of the most vulnerable of India’s 1.3 billion people, its orphans. Our volunteerism isn’t particularly heroic, we won’t really be putting ourselves in harm’s way but we will, if only for a few short weeks this March, be able to experience the pleasures of doing for others in a place far outside our normal comfort zones. The donations are all collected, the suitcases are packed, we’ve had our shots, we’ve changed our money, and we’ve finalized all our arrangements. Let’s get this started…

India Trip,

You are about to embark on a trip of a lifetime. Soak it all in and take in a much as you can. I wish you safe travels. Here are a few tips for

1. Wash your hands all the time, your stomach will thank you
2. Try eating everything at least once - the canteen food is awesome if you give it a chance.
3. Jump right into life at FFC and make a friend , in three weeks you will be glad you did.

all the best.

Justin Medved.

PS - Please pass along greetings to Sunbeam and the rest of the FFC staff.

Only a couple of hours until we meet at the airport and foul weather is quickly moving in. Freezing rain, sleet, snow…the good stuff! Fingers crossed that we’ll beat the storm and be on our way on schedule. Last night as I packed I had a minor flip out when I couldn’t find the ‘cirrus’ bank card. The best laid financial plans were dissolving as I unpacked and re-packed and unpacked again in search of the elusive card. I got in the car and drove back to school at 10:30 thinking I might have left it on my desk. No luck. Needless to say sleep was fitful and this morning just as I was about to head off to the bank, I found it. It was in my backpack all along. Crisis over. And now if the weather cooperates…mr b
